Although controversy continues about the authenticity of his quote, Alexander Fraser Tytler, Lord Woodhouselee – a Scottish advocate, judge, writer & historian who served as Professor of Universal History & Greek & Roman Antiquities at the University of Edinburgh, the progression it reveals is difficult to challenge.
His statement has been reported as follows:
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”
He goes on to add that the average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years, during which time the progress along this identical pattern revealed below.
Time is Running Out…
With almost 50% of Americans now depending on subsistence from the Federal Government – Uncle Sam – handouts and goodies taken by our elected officials from hard-working American citizens to buy their votes. The result? WE are becoming slaves to these elitist power mongers in Washington DC.
We believe this nation is precariously close to reaching that final, inevitable condition – complete dependency. This is our time, our opportunity to honor the generations before us and to save the generations to reject the entire notion of dependence in favor of independence, of bondage in favor of liberty. It’s time to break this cycle and return to the days of spiritual faith and courage to ensure our liberty for generations to come.
Civilization’s 200-Year Cycle
- Bondage to Faith
- Faith to Courage
- Courage to Liberty
- Liberty to Abundance
- Abundance to Complacency
- Complacency to Apathy
- Apathy to Dependence
- Dependence to Bondage
