Founded upon Faith
The Constitution insists that there can and should be no “established religion” in the United States, nor would we wish for one. It cannot be denied, however, that America’s founders created a nation deeply rooted in the laws and beliefs of the Judeo-Christian faith.
Among our primary goals is the preservation of that heritage and the importance of rekindling that spirit. The continued growth and success of this nation depends on knowing that our CREATOR is the guiding light of a free and independent people. We insist that it is the right of the people to acknowledge God in public prayer at official functions and ceremonies and we work to encourage and promote a return to that foundation which gives us the strength to persevere against the enemies of free people everywhere.
Contemporary “politically-correct” assertions to the contrary, America’s foundation is rooted in the conviction that mankind derives life and rights, not from any government, but from Almighty God. While acknowledging the right of individuals to believe otherwise, our Judeo-Christian heritage must continue to function as the basis of government, law and justice. At no time and in no place did our founding fathers – even with their universal human questions about their Creator and God – suggest that we allow the “separation” or removal of the laws of God from the practice of our new civilization.
Freedom of Worship
As Thomas Jefferson asserted in 1777’s Bill for Religious Freedom (click top right), no American “shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shallbe enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer, on account of his religious opinions or belief …” Clearly, Americans are granted total and complete freedom to worship and believe as they see fit. Equally clearly, the American government is founded and must operate within a framework rooted in God-fearing respect for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Every key document written and approved by our founders supports these truths, beginning with the Declaration of Independence.
“When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary … to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them … We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
Our God-Given Rights
Given by our Creator — not our government.
Contemporary positions to the contrary, there can be no argument that our Founders not only understood that our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness come not from the pen of man, but from the Creator of the universe. That they also understood the need for religious tolerance should have no bearing on the importance of God in the formation and continued success of the United States of America.
This nation’s foundation is embedded in the rock of ages. While we will accept as citizens and resident those of differing religious viewpoints (or no religion at all) – and we understand that the Constitution makes it clear that we must establish no official national religion, we are only as strong as our Faith in God and our belief that all things and all rights are derived directly and only from Him.
The only thing UpWithAmerica™ is more committed to than reviving the honor and principles of our founders, is reviving the truth that, as John F. Kennedy said, “here on earth, God’s work must truly be our own.”

A Prayer for Those in Public Office
“May Those generations whose faces we cannot yet see, whose names we may never know, say of us here that we led our beloved land into a new century with the American Dream alive for all her children; with the American promise of a more perfect union a reality for all her people; with America’s bright flame of freedom spreading throughout all the world. From the height of this place and the summit of this century, let us go forth. May God strengthen our hands for the good work ahead–and always, always, bless our America. Amen.“
All Men Created Equal
The founding fathers made it imminently clear from the earliest days of the drive toward independence that they and the nation they were about to form was deeply rooted in the core belief that the rights of man come directly from God (the “Creator,” “Nature’s God”) and not from man.
It is equally apparent that knowing the “right thing to do” and “doing the right thing” can be difficult to achieve. In spite of Thomas Jefferson’s efforts to include in the original draft of the Declaration of Independence language that would have at least begun the process of racial and gender equality decades before they began to take place, thousands of years of “inequality,” coupled with an economy built in great part on slavery – early Continental Congresses struck such language from our documents and our laws.
Just as America must always remember that “day of infamy” in 1941 and the horrific events of September 11, 2001, it is right and proper that we acknowledge the pain and suffering and disenfranchisement of women and minorities, especially black Americans who were “emancipated” in 1863 but only recently began being treated as more than second-class citizens. Thanks to the leadership of Susan B. Anthony Martin Luther King, Jr., and so many others, America has corrected omissions in the Constitution and the vast majority of Americans have long-since embraced full equality. Perhaps the culmination of these efforts was the election in 2008 of Barack Obama, America’s first black president.
It is just as important that America embrace this new and proper age of equality “with malice toward none and charity for all:” and that includes putting away childish and destructive behavior such as “political correctness” which can only work to pour fuel on the fires that are so close to being out.
